AFTER SEEING A BUMPER STICKER DEMANDING
“SHARE THE ROAD WITH MOTORCYCLES!”

i thought i admired bikers, respected what they stood for: ultimate freedom, to go anywhere, anytime. to eat, to drink, smoke, write, read, ride, love anything.

as a kid i thought it would be cool to be one, riding the highway, long hair and beard whipping in the wind. no worries no past no destination.

when fate brought them to my acquaintance, i learned they are not all heroes. some seem to think it makes them MEN to wear t-shirts that read, “in Wyoming we have a cure for AIDS … we shoot fags.” some seem to think it makes them MEN to wear t-shirts picturing Ku Klux Klan in sheets & masks, declaring them “the original BOYZ IN THE HOOD” and proclaiming “WHITE POWER!”

some seem to think giving gifts to underprivileged children once a year redeems their hateful bigoted hearts.

those i thought were harbingers of freedom and tolerance have turned out to be simply more fat hairy pimples on the butt of humanity.

HOW TO PISS OFF A GOOD CHRISTIAN MAN

be happily gay.
live only a block away.
be friends with his teen-age son.

be driving toward him on the street,
unaware his signal lights are broken.
smile and wave real big
when his hand goes up to signal a right turn.

think he is waving at you for the first time ever
after 3 years of being neighbors
like a good Christian should.
